God is not after you!

Hi friends! I’m on a role! I’ve been getting out a post a day! But don’t get used to it๐Ÿ˜„. I won’t be able to keep up with this. Anyway, my topic for today is being afraid that God is out to get you. Aka “punish” you. But don’t get me wrong, you’ll still learn your lesson in life, but not from God being wrathful and literally getting you. Christians are often tormented by this idea of God. I know I used to be. Every time something didn’t go my way, I was asking God why did you do this to me? Why are you punishing me. Or if I felt like I sinned, I was waiting for my punishment. But I was far from right. When I was reading the bible, I read this:

Jeremiah 2:19- Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

As you can see, God is saying that our own ways will catch up to us. I know some of us picture God sitting in Heaven and looking down and saying, ” hmmm….. who needs an punishment today? Let me look at my list. Cindy, Tom, Linda, Jhon…….!”

Umm….that’s a little time consuming isn’t it? Lol!๐Ÿ˜„ God is the creator of nature and nature runs it’s course on it’s own. God already told nature how to run the program. When I read that passage, I really sat still and meditated on that passage. Then I bursted out and laughed and said, “Wow, a lot of the things that went wrong in my life was my fault.” I admitted to myself that there was plenty of times I could have made better choices. For example, and I know this is a silly example, but I used to have the most painful tooth aches. I would scream out in pain untilย Pink and say, ” God! Why are you letting me go through all this pain! Is it punishment?” Then I heard a little voice say, ” You know you shouldn’t have ate so many sweets and not take care of your teeth!” ๐Ÿ˜„ I had to face the fact that it was my fault! God was only allowing nature to run it’s course! More serious example is when my grandmother was in a serious car crash when I was a kid. I cried to God, ” Why did you allow my grandmother to be in a car wreck and get hurt?” At the time, I was still traumatized from my Mom’s death in the car crash. But years later as an adult, I realized that it was my grandmother fault. The wreck wasn’t her fault, but the head injury was her fault. Had she worn a seatbelt, she would not had bumped her head on the glass in front of her. Had she worn the seatbelt, she would have been just fine. To me, God is like our parent who tells us that if we eat too much candy we will get a tummy ache. But being the stubborn kids we are, we eat a bunch of candy anyway! Then we go crying to God our tummy hurt! We then beg for his help and mercy in prayer. And of course, God our creator/ heavenly father is thinking, ” I told you so” and wrap us in his loving arms. So please, don’t confuse the word fear in the bible with you thinking he wants you to be afraid of him. ” Fear” mean to follow. You are to Follow his guide to prevent natures natural consequences. With every action there is a reaction!๐Ÿ˜Š “Fear” is desire and want; want to follow. Get it?

Are you going to Fear God or Follow God?ย

  1. Good read. We also have to concede that in this fallen world, bad things do happen to good responsible people who don’t deserve what came their way. Sometimes they even did everything right and still things went sideways. We can wear or seatbelts and still get brain injuries or die :(. But not in heaven, thank God for that hope!

    1. Oh yes, depending on circumstances a seatbelt won’t help. In this world bad things have to happen. I explain that in my latest post , A life without obstacles?” “We have to have obstacles to learn lessons, and have a greater appreciation for the good times. Sometimes blessings are hidden in the obstacles. It seem like it was bad, but if it wasn’t for the situation, we wouldn’t have been brought to the blessing. God can turn your tragedy for better. And yes, this life is quite temporary. Sometimes it’s just our time to go. And yes, thank God for hope. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. The one thing every single person in this world has in common is free will. We were born with it. Was it a gift from God or did he give it to us to make choices and hope that we all choose well. But, like you, we don’t realize until we are older that it is man’s inhumanity to man or bad choices that get us into situations that we blame God for when all the time it was bad choices.
A great post and a wake-up call. Thank you. xo
