Hi friends! If you are like me, life can get pretty depressing. Everyday on the news there is bad news to be told. More people losing their life, starving, killing, sick, and hating. It causes a lot of us to not even watch the news. The world is only getting worse and it leaves us children of God wondering what to do in such a cruel dark world.
But, don’t give up on this world. Did you know God want us to be the light of the darkness?
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
That’s what the holy bible state. But no matter what holy book you read, I’m sure it speaks of being a vessel of good. One of our responsibilities on our journey is to let God shine through us. We are God’s flashlights in the darkness. Wherever we go we should shine light. How can we do this? We can do this by not running from the darkness. Please, walk into the dark and shine your light. Find out where your help can be used. Here is a list of things you can do to help.
- Volunteer at a soup kitchen
- Donate items to charities
- If you see someone homeless, hand out a gift card for food, clothing, or shelter.
- Volunteer at a nursing home.
- Make sick children laugh at the children’s hospital.
- Watch the news sometimes to see if you can volunteer your help. Like for example natural disaster victims, or a family who need a donation for funeral cost.
- Give out free smiles and compliments to strangers. A lot of people have low self-esteem and a compliment from a stranger will give them a little boost!
The list can go on and on! No kindness is too big or small. When I am able, I like to give out fresh deli sandwiches and cold water bottles to the homeless. When I walk up to them they look sad, but when I offer a smile and a kind gesture, they crack a smile. My spirit rejoices! God rejoices! Perhaps they wonder if perhaps there is hope. Our job is to convince the dark world and atheist that God do exist and they will see the creator through us. If enough of us shine our light, the world will start to light up and atheist will have no choice but to start to question reality, and believe there has to be some powerful force behind it all. Also, everyone deserves to feel God’s love. God is not here in the physical, so the creator has to live through us. This is surely an important goal for our souls to pursue!
Will you volunteer to be a vessel to let God’s light shine through Amongst the world?
